Question by m: How do I know if I tore any muscles in the rotator cuff/shoulder area?
Hi…
I was coming down the stairs with a load of stuff….fell forward with my arm bent and shoulder pushed out and forward while holding onto the banister…pulled a bunch of stuff in my shoulder. Doc’s office has no openings today…..What hurts the most is if I push my shoulder forward. It hurts along the bend or curved part of the top/front of the shoulder blade. I can still lift stuff and I still have rotation although it is sore and swollen. Would I be in a lot more pain if I tore something? Thanks!

chances are it’s just a strain. The tests for a tear are to hold your arm up at 90 degrees if it stays up good but inability to hold it up may indicate a tear.
take some ibuprophen to keep the swelling down and maybe use an ice pack. If you have any tingling or numbness in your arm you may have nerve damage and should go to the ER to have it evaluated.
good luck.
