How much effect does short-term activities like taking the stairs vs. elevator have on weight loss?

Question by Dolkite: How much effect does short-term activities like taking the stairs vs. elevator have on weight loss?
I am 6’3″, 250 lbs, about 30% body fat. When I go to school, I have anywhere from four to ten stories (two flights per story) of stairs to walk up, or just take the elevator. I know that stair climbing is good exercise, but will simply doing it once every three hours (going to and from class) aid in long-term weight loss?

Despite the way it feels, losing weight isn’t a mysterious process. It’s a simple matter of burning more calories than you eat. Below is a good site I found that really helped.
