How do you change a garage door from being manual to automatic so I can push a button to open, instead of lift?

Question by djevans1234@sbcglobal.net: How do you change a garage door from being manual to automatic so I can push a button to open, instead of lift?
My power went out a week ago and was off for 5 days. To open my garage door, someone else came over and switched it to manual so that we could lift up the door, but he cannot be contacted. What is the lever or switch I need to change to make it automatic again? A website with pictures would be helpful, or a detailed description would also be great. Thanks so much!

look at the top of the garage where the door opens at there should be a big box that opens the door off to the side there is a cord of some type pull it down this should disengage the chain that operates the power to the opener.

  1. Dave W says:

depending on if u have a garage door opener. if so plug it in and there should be a lock on the chain drive just before the opener itself and that should be ingaged. once ingaged, open the door all the way so the lock incounters the door and it should lock the chain to the door and at that time u should be able to use ur remote.
